Drugs Will Ultimately Kill You
David Sapolis

Drugs and Pool just do not mix. As a Police Officer I deal with drug addicts on a daily basis. I also see the families of the drug users. Drug addiction is a disease that affects the entire family. I have heard that the use of drugs will enhance your playing ability, but I believe that the long term consequences of choosing such a stupid method will eventually catch up to someone. There is a player who came through El Paso not too long ago who should be the poster child of this topic. Twelve years ago this guy was sitting on top of the world. Today, he just shuffles himself from town to town trying to scrape up enough money to get from place to place.

A few nights ago I was dispatched to a room at a Motel 6 where a young man in his mid-twenties had suffered a seizure. The young man could not be revived and he was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at the hospital. This guy had a history of seizures, but this did not stop him from using cocaine. Eventually it caught him by surprise and it took his life. This is a risk that all drug users take when they use these substances. I don't know about any of the readers here on RSB, but 26 is too young to die. I think about this kid's family, his mother. I was given the task of telling her that her son was dead. That was no fun for either of us. I have had to bury a child. I completely understood what she was feeling. It was not the first time I have had to break news such as that, and I'm sure it will not be the last.

Drugs are designed to kill. Sometime they kill quickly, sometimes they kill slowly. WIth risks like that, I'll sit in the chair with a bottle of water and be grateful for the skills God has blessed me with (without arguing His judgement). This has been Blackjack's 2 minutes on the soap box.
